LEGACY MASS FOR 100 DAYS OF PEACE
St George’s Cathedral, Southwark
Sunday 28th October 2012
3.00pm
At the Mass we will celebrate the efforts of schools, churches, charities and individuals across the three dioceses of Brentwood, Southwark and Westminster who have engaged in a time a peace-building before, during and after the London 2012 Games to encourage nations worldwide to honour the Olympic Truce.
There will also be a handover of tokens of the Peace Legacy to the Brazilian community as their home country begins preparations to host the Rio Olympics in 2016. Brazil, too, seeks peace and we hope that this concern to bring the world a lasting legacy of peace will unite many peoples across the nations in the years to come.
The Pax Christi Peace Icon begins its visit to the Diocese of Southwark at Aylesford Priory on 24 August 2012. It will then travel in relay to the parishes of St Francis de Sales, Hartley, St Peter the Apostle, Woolwich, St Edmund of Canterbury, Beckenham, St John the Baptist, Purley and Our Lady Immaculate, Tolworth, before arriving at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, for the final week of the 100 Days of Peace, 19-28 October 2012.
